Fisher Nuts Store - Elgin, IL

If you like Nuts and Candy, you'll love the  Fisher Nut  Store in Elgin, IL! Fisher Nuts is made out here, but also their outlet store has great prices if you want nuts and candy.  We bought over $50 worth as you can see in our shopping cart!  No, we aren't eating it all... it is for a party! Not only do they have deals for people, they have deals for animals too!  Large quantities of nuts are available for purchase to feed animals (not for human consumption.  I asked about this and was told these items were not stale items, but packaged specifically for animal use.  I am guessing here, but perhaps these are the nuts that have fallen and swept up from the production floor or some other reasons why people should not eat them, but may be perfectly fine for animals.  At least it is not just wasted! Go check out the store if you get a chance.  You'll walk away with a bunch of nuts and candy at a great deal. Fisher Nut Store 1701 N Randall Rd Elgin, I

Clay Oven Tandoor Indian Grill & Bar

This was my second time at  Clay Oven Tandoor Indian Grill & Bar  in Long Grove, IL.  My first time was perhaps a year ago when I went there with my fishing partner Jim.  I had to try four entrances before stumbling onto the correct front door!  Apparently I parked near the back, but with a sign in the back, it looks like the front!  So off I went trying each door before door #4 turned out to be the front door!  Don't give up!  It's worth it! I like Indian food.  I was first introduced to Indian food back in the early 1990's.  Several coworkers introduced me to Indian food for lunch and I have been hooked ever since. I typically go to Indian buffets.  Why?  I don't know what anything is called!  I do recognize the food from just looking at it, but I can't remember the names of the dishes.  Now you may say, "How can you tell what is what?  A lot of the dishes look the same!"  Look at the photos abov

Chopstick

I have been to  Chopstick  many times.  It's a Chinese carryout restaurant in Rolling Meadows.  It's a very small place, but they give some of the best value lunch specials around! While it is just a carryout and delivery restaurant really, there are a couple of tables there, so you can sit and eat if you really wanted to, but most of their customers just do the carry out. There are traditional Chinese dishes as well as dishes geared towards the American palate.  Take your pick of dishes like Sweet & Sour Chicken, Pork or Shrimp, Kung Pao Chicken, Beef or Shrimp, Pepper Steak,  Sesame Chicken,   Szechuan Chicken, Beef or Shrimp... and many others. They also have Pad Thai... a Thai dish.  I originally ordered Shrimp Pad Thai to take a photo of it for a photography class.  But today, I ordered the Beef Pad Thai.  Very tasty dish! While you can get this dish with fried rice (all their lunch specials offer fried or white rice), I figure why do that?  Just

Jason's Deli

Jason’s Deli in Schaumburg, IL is a hidden gem. I had been going to Costco right across the street from this restaurant for years and while I had seen the sign for the restaurant numerous times, I didn’t think of going in there. Why?  Well from the street, I couldn’t really see the building.  You have to follow the driveway to the back of the building before you see its entrance.  Plus, I always thought to myself… I don’t want to go to a deli! Well, was I wrong! It’s now one of my favorite places to go! My friend Andy suggested we consider this restaurant for our lunches because he knew how much I loved a restaurant called Sweet Tomatoes.  It was a salad buffet restaurant that offered a huge array of salad ingredients and also soups, pizza, pasta and ice cream.  We’d go there because we could get as much as we wanted and stay and talk as long as we wanted.  Nobody ever bothered us and gave us “the eye” if we overstayed our welcome.

El Rey del Pollo Asado

This was not my first time to  El Rey del Pollo Asado  in Palatine, IL... it's actually my third time! My wife and I went back to El Rey del Pollo Asado for Chinese New Year dinner.  Yes, Mexican food for Chinese New Year!  The name of the restaurant translates to "The King of Roasted Chicken". We ordered the 8-piece Family Order with Rice and Two French Fries.  Cost was $16.15 plus tax ($17.93 with tax).  We also had included 6 corn tortillas per person as part of the meal. This restaurant has a definite charm.  You see, we lived in San Diego for eight years and if you live there, you HAVE to go to Mexican restaurants!  But coming back home to the Chicago area, I really only want to go to Mexican restaurants that remind me of San Diego and Mexico!  This place is it! The restaurant is painted in the typical way I’d see them in San Diego.  I’m not talking the commercialized restaurants there.  I’m talking the authentic Mexican res

Chick-fil-A

I went to Chick-fil-A for dinner and ordered a Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich with Pepper Jack Cheese.  Cost was $4.39 plus tax.  After paying for your food, they give you a plastic "cup" which holds your straw, condiments and receipt and also serves as a way for them to recognize where to bring your food after you decide where to sit.  Mine was a purple cup. The sandwich was great as has been for all Chick-fil-A sandwiches I have had in the past.  While expensive for a chicken breast, it is still hard to beat in taste and texture.  I added the Chick-fil-A sauce to it which is essentially just honey mustard.  Great sandwich overall!
